UKULELE WORKOUT: sign-up now!

December 30th, 2011

This is a great setting to practice, develop and apply theoretical and technical fundamentals, while having fun together! With this class you will embody a deeper musical understanding while gaining greater proficiency on the ukulele. Classics from folk, blues, rock and jazz will ground this work into a rewarding experience. This class is designed for all levels. Sign up now!

OUTLINE
I. Right Hand Studies – strumming, finger-picking
II. Left Hand Studies – 4 finger permutations
III. Linear Approach – scales, modes, melodies
IV. Vertical Approach – harmonic progressions, voice-leading
V. Repertoire – application of materials in musical situations

These important skills are challenging to practice alone because the necessary consistency and focus can often feel tedious and boring. In real-life playing situations, such as jam sessions, there is little time to really learn and work on new skills, leaving the player only to use the most familiar and easiest tools. This small group class provides a safe and supportive opportunity for each individual to push themselves beyond their comfort zones. Ultimately, this process is designed to open greater musical enjoyment and fluidity in sharing music with others. Plus it’s fun!
